Enhance Your Keyword Research with Pinterest Search Tools

Pinterest is a visual search engine, so it’s important to implement keywords to be successful on the Platform. There are several Pinterest search tools that will help you find Pinterest keywords, to ensure that your Pinterest pins are optimized for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) . Let’s discuss the 5 Pinterest search tools.

Is Pinterest Social Media?

There is a common misconception that Pinterest is social media. Actually, Pinterest is a visual search engine. It’s used to find information, products and be inspired. It’s more than just trends on Pinterest.

When we think of search engines, our first thought goes to the most popular search engine, Google. Pinterest works exactly the same way that Google does. You input a keyword into the Pinterest search bar and it generates all the topics related to that keyword.

Pinterest Search Bar

The first and most obvious place to find Pinterest keywords is the Pinterest search bar. If you’ve used Pinterest before, you would have seen the suggested words below that populate when you start typing. These are keywords. You can choose any of these.

For example, for chocolate chip, it gives you the option of chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip pancakes, etc. Make sure you choose keywords that best describe the topic of your pin.

Pinterest Related Searches

After you have input a term into the Pinterest search bar, Pinterest will populate keyword suggestions within the pins that it shows. You’ll need to scroll down (sometimes it takes a bit) until you see “Related searches”. These keywords relate to your initial search and will help you expand your keyword list.

Pinterest Trends Tool

One of the best tools to find Pinterest keywords is the Pinterest Trends tool This tool tracks trends on Pinterest and shows the popularity of the keyword. You can find data for growing, monthly, yearly and seasonal trends. You can specify demographics and even compare the trend data for different keywords. One thing to remember is that not all of the keywords on Pinterest are in the Pinterest Trends tool, so you can’t use only the Pinterest Trends tool

Locating keywords with the Pinterest Trends tool is similar to the Pinterest search bar. You input a term and it will generate related keywords. Another way is to click one of the suggested keywords and go into the data trends for that specific keyword.

Under the data graph, there will be “Related trends” or keyword suggestions. If you use one of the keywords the data will also be included on the graph and you can determine which keywords trends on Pinterest more than the other.

Pinterest Ad Manager

If you focus mostly on organic Pinterest marketing, you may not have ventured into the Pinterest Ad Manager, but it’s actually a great place to find keywords. It will give you a list of keywords and will give you the estimated monthly searches. It’s probably the most comprehensive place to find Pinterest keywords.

Although the Pinterest Ads Manager is a great place to find Pinterest keywords, it can be a bit tricky using it for the first time. You’ll need to go to “Ads” on the menu at the top of the screen, then click “Create Campaign.

Scroll down and click on “Interest and Keywords”. It will open up a tab. Make sure “Enable interest and keywords is checked”

Below that it will say “Add interests” and “Add keywords”

Click “Add keywords.” A search box will appear under the words “Extend your reach: Search for related keywords”

Input your keyword there to get a list of related keywords.

This is how you find keywords with the Pinterest Ads Manager. When you’re done, you can leave by clicking any other tab in the menu. You don’t need to publish or do anything else.

How do I find keyword search volume on Pinterest?

A large part of SEO research is dependent on a keywords search volume. Unfortunately, Pinterest doesn’t offer the best solutions for finding the search volume of a keyword, but there are some options that will help your SEO research.

Find the Keyword Search Volume with the Pinterest Trends Tool

One of features that Pinterest search tools don’t provide is the exact search volume. The Pinterest trends tool bases its data on a rating of 0-100, rather than the exact search volume information.

According to the Pinterest Help Center, “Pinterest normalizes search volume by only considering the ratio of searches for each trend to the total number of searches that happened on our platform during the same time frame.”

This means that instead of giving the exact search volume number, Pinterest compares search terms and puts those with a higher search volume closer to 100 and those with a lower search volume, closer to 0, depending on the actual search volume.

Find the Search Volume of Keywords with the Pinterest Ads Manager

The Pinterest Ad Manager doesn’t give the exact search volume number, but it does provide a range for the keyword. The data range for keywords can vary. I’ve seen ranges such as 1K-10, 10k-100k, 500k – 1M, or 1M-2M for example. So, while it gives you a general idea of the search volume, it may not give you enough accuracy for your SEO research.

Keyword Volume Search Tool, Keywords Everywhere

Screenshot of using Keywords Everywhere on Pinterest

Keywords Everywhere was not created by Pinterest and is actually a Chrome or Firefox extension that can be used with the platform. It’s one of the lowest subscription based keyword research tools, and it  allows you to see the Google search volume in the Pinterest search bar.

Even though the data is based on Google, you’ll be able to visually see the Pinterest keyword with the Google search volume. It will give you an even closer idea as to which keywords are popular on Pinterest. Then you can take the search volume data and compare it to the Pinterest Trend Tool data and the Pinterest Ads Manager data.

Don’t Forget about the Pinterest Keywords

Pinterest keywords and keywords research is an important part of Pinterest marketing. If you don’t implement keywords into your Pinterest pin title and descriptions, your pins won’t be found on the platforms. Knowing and using these Pinterest search tools will ensure that your keyword research is thorough and that your Pinterest strategy will ensure success on the platform.
